Description
The challenge of producing powdered activated carbon (PAC)
Secure your micropollutant adsorption process with a "Plug & Play" suspension solution, certified ATEX and optimised for water and flue gas treatment.
Activated carbon is a powerful ally in the removal of PFAS, pharmaceutical residues, pesticides and organic matter. However, its industrial handling presents a major challenge: extreme volatility, explosion risk (ATEX), and difficulty in wetting (clumping).
The PalBlack Skid® from Palamatic Process is a containerised, integrated robotic production unit designed to transform raw carbon powder into a perfectly homogeneous, precisely metered slurry that is ready to be injected into your network.

Why is in-house slurry production cost-effective?
- Reduced transport costs: You purchase dry powder (which is lighter) rather than ready-made liquid solutions.
- Reagent freshness: A slurry prepared on demand retains its maximum adsorption capacity.
- Complete control over dosing: Adjust the concentration of your suspension in real time according to the pollutant load in your incoming flow.

Areas of application and sectors
The PalBlack® skid is designed for demanding environments where reliability cannot be compromised:
- Drinking water and wastewater treatment (WWTP): Removal of micropollutants and endocrine disruptors, and compliance with the new European directives on urban waste water.
- Flue gas treatment (MSW incineration plants): Injection of activated carbon to reduce dioxins, furans and heavy metals (mercury) in household waste incineration plants.
- Food and pharmaceutical industry: De-oiling, decolourisation of liquid solutions or purification of active ingredients in sterile or confined environments.
Everything you need to know about the activated carbon production skid

Is the PalBlack Skid® compatible with all types of carbon?
Yes, whether it is wood, coal or coconut-based activated carbon, in powder (CAP) or micro-grain form, our dosing and mixing system adapts to the specific particle size of your reagent.
How do you manage the risk of explosion (ATEX)?
All electrical components (motors, sensors, controllers) are certified for potentially explosive atmospheres. Furthermore, the container enclosure limits the accumulation of combustible dust outside the system.
Can the skid be controlled remotely?
Absolutely. Our control cabinets are equipped with communication protocols (Profinet, Ethernet/IP) enabling alarm reporting and full control from your central control room.

What is the service life of peristaltic pumps?
We use high-strength tubing and a slow rotation speed to maximise the service life of consumables, thereby reducing your maintenance costs (OPEX).

the ‘Zero Dust’ wetting system
One of the biggest sticking points with competing solutions is the management of residual dust. The PalBlack Skid® incorporates proprietary hybrid wetting technology:
- Controlled vortex: The black (high-density) HDPE tank is fitted with a high-shear mixer and anti-vortex blades.
- Bottom wetting or vacuum injection: Unlike conventional systems where the powder ‘falls’ onto the water, our system forces the carbon particle to come into contact with the water molecule, instantly eliminating any volatile emissions.
- Controlled atmosphere: The container’s sealed enclosure confines the dosing equipment. In the event of a leak, the pollutant remains trapped within the skid.
