Integration of a D14 twin-screw dosing unit on a PalSack packaging machine

Context & Objectives

A company specialising in the production and packaging of spice mixes for the food industry wanted to optimise the dosing and filling of its bags at the end of a mixing line.

The main objective was to ensure fast, accurate and consistent filling while maintaining high standards of hygiene and safety.

Solution implemented

To meet the customer's requirements, Palamatic Process has integrated a D14 type twin-screw dosing unit equipped with a large 200 mm screw and the Easy Clean version with quick disassembly, allowing easy cleaning between different production batches.

The installation also included:

  • A PalSack packaging machine with integrated weighing and vibrating tray to ensure optimal deaeration and filling of the bags.
  • A bag conveyor to ensure the smooth transport of the filled bags.
  • An automatic sealer to guarantee the hermetic seal of the bags.
  • An outgoing weight checker to ensure compliance with the commercial weight.
  • An upstream magnetic detector to eliminate any risk of foreign bodies before dosing.

Process

Product safety before dosing

Before entering the dosing unit, the spices pass through a magnetic detector to eliminate any risk of contamination by metal particles.

Transfer of the spice mixture

The mixed spices are transferred to the hopper of the D14 twin-screw dosing unit.

The integrated de-vanning shaft prevents the formation of arches and ensures a homogeneous flow.

Fast and accurate dosing

The large 200 mm screw ensures high-speed filling, enabling the packaging rate to be optimised.

The small 30 mm screw guarantees fine adjustment with a precision of ±2 g.

Filling and densification

The product is poured into the PalSack packaging machine, which ensures even distribution of the powder in the bags.

An integrated vibrating plate compacts the product to prevent the formation of air pockets and improve the stability of the bags.

The filling weighing system integrated into the PalSack guarantees precise weight control before closing.

At the end of the dosing process, the vibration stops automatically to avoid any interference with the weighing process.

Final check and packaging

Once filled, the bags are transported via a bag conveyor to an automatic sealer that ensures they are hermetically sealed.

A weight checker then verifies that each bag meets commercial weight standards before shipment.

Results & Profits

  • Precise dosing guaranteed: Tolerance of ±2 g for a constant bag weight.
  • Enhanced food safety: Upstream magnetic detector to eliminate any risk of metal contamination.
  • Optimised speed: High throughput ensured by the large screw, reducing filling times.
  • Hygiene and flexibility: Quick cleaning between production runs thanks to the Easy Clean design.
  • Improved packaging quality: densification of powders by vibration and filling weighing for ultra-precise dosing.
  • Commercial compliance: systematic weight verification before shipment with the weight checker.

Thanks to this installation, the customer has been able to improve its productivity while maintaining impeccable dosing quality and total compliance with food industry standards.
