Food processing industry company involved in the preparation of food mixes in powder form.

Our customer consumes a large quantity of icing sugar daily (4 tons) for the preparation of its final recipes. Historically supplied with icing sugar, he decided to entrust Palamatic Process with the realization of a skid for the production of icing sugar. This icing sugar production unit is composed of a big bag loader, a dosing screw, a pin mill, a buffer hopper and a bag/drum filling station.
The handling of the big bags is carried out by the operator via a stacker. The choice to handle big bags at the inlet of the production line brings the advantage of reducing the operator's interventions to a minimum compared to a solution using bags (25 kg).
The big bag discharge and its feeding screw ensure volumetric dosing of the crystal sugar at the mill inlet. Given the explosive nature of the sugar, the whole line is treated against explosion. A flame barrier rotary airlock valve as well as flame anti-reverse system and explosion vents ensure the safety of the grinding line. The plant is approved to ATEX 20 by the relevant notified body.

The Palamatic Process Model UM 500 pin mill is located in the production area where the air is treated against humidity and temperature variations, important factors to ensure a very high quality grinding. In fact, the grinding of sugar or any other type of powder causes a rise in product temperature which can strongly impact the behaviour of the powder until it melts the product.
Similarly, during the powder grinding operation, moisture can be released when the grain is "broken/ground". This released moisture must be absorbed by dry process air in order to avoid any risk of product caking. In the case of sugar, a so-called threshing hopper ensures the gradual cooling of the product and a scavenging air picks up the moisture released.  
The buffer hopper is made of mirror-polished stainless steel with injection of fresh and dry air. The bagging unit allows the operator to pack bags of icing sugar at the exact weight required by the production line recipe sheets. Thus this sugar grinding plant provides a safe and on-demand production of icing sugar for the whole production plant.
