Processed materials: Industrial and automotive waste
Optimising the recycling of used automotive oil filters with DrumFlow06
Background and Issues
Our client, a major player in the recycling industry, specialises in the collection and processing of industrial and automotive waste, including used oil filters. The drums of oil filters, sourced directly from garages and already palletised, arrived on site, thereby eliminating load breaks. Previously, the process of emptying the drums was carried out manually by operators, which was time-consuming and posed risks to their safety.
The client was looking to improve the efficiency of the drum emptying process for used oil filters, whilst ensuring operator safety and the accurate separation of oils and filter media for recycling.
Solution implemented: Drumflow06
To overcome these challenges, the client decided to implement the DrumFlow06 bulk transfer system, designed by Palamatic Process. This solution perfectly met their specific requirements.
Operational process
The introduction of the DrumFlow06 has brought about significant improvements to the recycling process. The used oil filter drums, already arranged on pallets, are directly loaded onto the tipper’s inner platform using a forklift truck. The drums are secured using the integrated pneumatic cylinders. The tipping process, powered by an electric motor, allows up to four drums to be emptied simultaneously into a pit provided for this purpose.

Automation of the process has significantly reduced the time required to empty the drums, thereby increasing the overall efficiency of the recycling operation. Furthermore, the safety risk to operators has been minimised, as manual intervention during the tilting operation is now no longer required. The DrumFlow06 ensures controlled and precise tilting, guaranteeing that the oil filters are completely emptied into the collection pit.
Benefits of automated installation
The integration of the DrumFlow06 has brought significant benefits to our client in its used oil filter recycling process:
- Time savings: Loading the drums directly onto pallets has eliminated handling breaks, thereby further reducing the time required to empty the oil filters and improving productivity.
- Improved Safety: The reduction in manual handling has significantly improved operator safety, minimising the potential risk of accidents.
- Recycling Accuracy: The controlled tilting process ensures that the oil filters are completely emptied, fthus facilitating the precise separation of oils and filter media for subsequent recycling.
- Environmental Efficiency: Thanks to the precision of the process, the customer maximises the yield of the recycling process by efficiently recovering oils and recoverable materials.
Conclusion
By choosing the DrumFlow06 from Palamatic Process, our client has succeeded in revolutionising its process for recycling used oil filters, generating time savings, improving operational safety and contributing to a more efficient use of recyclable materials.
