Client objectives

The client’s main objective was the conversion of granulated sugar into very fine powdered sugar, intended for the production of chocolate paste (used as biscuit filling). This process had to guarantee impeccable food-grade quality while ensuring the complete absence of foreign bodies that could compromise the safety of the finished product.

The client was looking for a solution capable of handling a continuous throughput of 1,500 kg/h, while maintaining a safe and hygienic production environment and compliance with ATEX standards, due to the low MIE of powdered sugar.

The project also required uninterrupted operation in order to meet the factory’s production rates.

Proposed solution

Palamatic Process designed a unloading and transfer line entirely dedicated to the conversion of granulated sugar into powdered sugar, in response to the client’s requirements for quality, safety, and continuous performance.

The system begins with a manual unloading station, model Safetip® ST-S02, with a standard open enclosure. This open configuration, optimized for ergonomic access, allows the operator to manually place sugar bags on a fixed shelf at a standard height of 900 mm. The bag is then opened, and its contents are directed directly into an integrated safety vibrating screen built into the station’s structure. This screener is equipped with a removable 3 mm stainless steel (304L) mesh, ensuring the removal of foreign bodies and oversized particles before entering the process.

The food-grade stainless steel hopper is connected to a tubular screw conveyor, providing continuous, contamination-free transfer to the micronizer model UM315. This mill enables particle size reduction down to 100 µm, ensuring optimal fineness for chocolate formulations.

The entire line complies with ATEX requirements (Zone 20/22). Considering the very low Minimum Ignition Energy (MIE) of powdered sugar, all components were designed to operate safely and in full compliance with ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU.
